Well, it passed fairly unnoticed, its importance recognized only by those who were there, and those who have paid attention. On Saturday January 23 the United States Marine Corps turned over responsibility for operations in Al Anbar Province to the United States Army. The last Marine combat operation had been run on January 14th, and it was time for the last Marine infantry battalion still in Iraq, 3rd battalion 24th Marines, to leave. The Army’s 1st Armored Division assumed control for both Anbar and Baghdad provinces.

Anatomy of a Failing Presidency

Barack Obama is on track to have the most spectacularly failed presidency since Woodrow Wilson. In the modern era, we've seen several failed presidencies- -led by Jimmy Carter and LBJ. Failed presidents have one strong common trait-- they are repudiated, in the vernacular, spat out. Of course, LBJ wisely took the exit ramp early, avoiding a shove into oncoming traffic by his own party. Richard Nixon indeed resigned in disgrace, yet his reputation as a statesman has been partially restored by his triumphant overture to China 20.


But, Barack Obama is failing. Failing big. Failing fast. And failing everywhere: foreign policy, domestic initiatives, and most importantly, in forging connections with the American people. The incomparable Dorothy Rabinowitz in the Wall Street Journal put her finger on it: He is failing because he has no understanding of the American people, and may indeed loathe them. Fred Barnes of the Weekly Standard says he is failing because he has lost control of his message, and is overexposed. Clarice Feldman of American Thinker produced a dispositive commentary showing that Obama is failing because fundamentally he is neither smart nor articulate; his intellectual dishonesty is conspicuous by its audacity and lack of shame.

But, there is something more seriously wrong: How could a new president riding in on a wave of unprecedented promise and good will have forfeited his tenure and become a lame duck in six months? His poll ratings are in free fall. In generic balloting, the Republicans have now seized a five point advantage. This truly is unbelievable. What's going on?

No narrative. Obama doesn't have a narrative. No, not a narrative about himself. He has a self-narrative, much of it fabricated, cleverly disguised or written by someone else. But this self-narrative is isolated and doesn't connect with us. He doesn't have an American narrative that draws upon the rest of us. All successful presidents have a narrative about the American character that intersects with their own where they display a command of history and reveal an authenticity at the core of their personality that resonates in a positive endearing way with the majority of Americans. We admire those presidents whose narratives not only touch our own, but who seem stronger, wiser, and smarter than we are. Presidents we admire are aspirational peers, even those whose politics don't align exactly with our own: Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Harry Truman, Ike, and Reagan.

But not this president. It's not so much that he's a phony, knows nothing about economics, and is historically illiterate and woefully small minded for the size of the task--all contributory of course. It's that he's not one of us. And whatever he is, his profile is fuzzy and devoid of content, like a cardboard cutout made from delaminated, corrugated paper. Moreover, he doesn't command our respect and is unable to appeal to our own common sense. His notions of right and wrong are repugnant and how things work just don't add up. They are not existential. His descriptions of the world we live in don't make sense and don't correspond with our experience.

In the meantime, while we've been struggling to take a measurement of this man, he's dissed just about every one of us--financiers, energy producers, banks, insurance executives, police officers, doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, post office workers, and anybody else who has a non-green job. Expect Obama to lament at his last press conference in 2012: "For those of you I offended, I apologize. For those of you who were not offended, you just didn't give me enough time; if only I'd had a second term, I could have offended you too."

Mercifully, the Founders at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 devised a useful remedy for such a desperate state--staggered terms for both houses of the legislature and the executive. An equally abominable Congress can get voted out next year. With a new Congress, there's always hope of legislative gridlock until we vote for president again two short years after that.

Yes, small presidents do fail, Barack Obama among them. The coyotes howl but the wagon train keeps rolling along..

So given the president's call for fiscal "responsibility," one might assume Democrats would jump on the bandwagon. Not so. Every Senate Democrat -- every Democrat -- voted Thursday to raise the debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion. That's $45,000 of debt for every American man, woman and child. But as Obama so succinctly (and ridiculously) put it in the SOTU, "That's how budgeting works."

Today ESPN broadcast the "Green Game" a college basketball game featuring two of the best men's college basketball teams: Kansas and University of Michigan.

Friends, the broadcast was shameful. Throughout the entire game the announcers, ESPN crew and college officials were focused on trying to shove down the viewers throats the hoax of climate change, featuring propaganda footage and biased commentary from the sports announcers declaring the need for Americans to reduce carbon emissions or risk devastation to the environment.

The White House arbitrarily cut the projected long-term cost of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) by $200 billion, but rather than leave that money unspent, the administration wants to use it for a jobs bill. "TARP has turned out to be much cheaper than we had expected, although not cheap," Obama said. "It means that some of that money can be devoted to deficit reduction. And the question is: Are there selective approaches that are consistent with the original goals of TARP -- for example, making sure that small businesses are still getting lending -- that would be appropriate in accelerating job growth?" Rep. Barney Frank (D-Fannie Mae), on the other hand, wants TARP cash for more mortgage aid. Either proposal would likely require legislation changing the purpose of TARP.

In rebuttal, Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) argued, "TARP is not the Democrats' personal bank account and was never intended to be a $700 billion perpetual slush fund. This is a perfect example of the hazards of taxpayer-funded bailouts." Actually, Democrats had that in mind all along.

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton still owed $6 million to her pollster Mark Penn after her 2008 presidential fizzled out. Fortunately for Clinton and Penn, there was the Recovery Act. According to The Hill, "Federal records show that a contract worth $5.97 million, part of the $787 billion stimulus Congress passed this year, helped preserve three jobs at Burson-Marsteller, the global public-relations and communications firm headed by Penn." Naturally, Penn's firm denied the report, calling it "fundamentally inaccurate."

Such appears to be the case given the announcement that Monday's episode of "Oprah" was the most watched for the daytime talk queen in two years.
Palin even drew more viewers than pop singer Whitney Houston when she sat with Oprah earlier this year.
Just imagine all the sighs and rolling eyes in newsrooms from coast to coast.

Oprah Winfrey’s interview with former vp candidate Sarah Palin scored the talk show host her highest rating in two years.
Monday's episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" drew a 8.7 household rating and 13 share -- the best since Oprah had the entire Osmond family on the show in 2007.
That means Palin also topped Oprah's heavily viewed interviews with Whitney Houston at the start of the season.

The Obama Energy Lie

Obama talks a good line about the environment. But, it's all talk and no change. He claimed that his Administration is funding energy research and development. Don't believe it. If you go to the Energy Dept website, you'll find a page which tells you that no new projects after 2008 have yet to be funded. So much for the Obama lie.

Obama's real plan is to transfer wealth from the middle class to the lower class via an energy tax. He dresses it up in flowery language, but when you think about it, he simply thinks of himself as the Robin Hood of the 21 Century, taking from those who have money and giving it to the poor.

Kickoff Rally a Huge Success!

Hi everyone! We've now launched the Tea Party Express II: Countdown to Judgment Day with a giant rally in San Diego. It was incredible!! The crowd was huge - numbering in the thousands! The sun was shining on this naval town with our rally on the water and the U.S.S. Midway serving as the backdrop. Sorry Keith Olbermann and any critics of the Tea Party Express - but "We The People" came together in San Diego today and our voice was heard!

I can't begin to tell you how exciting the event was and how meaningful it was for all of us. If you were there you know the energy that radiated through the crowd.

The speakers at the rally were great - including nationally syndicated radio talk show host, Roger Hedgecock and California conservative hero, Chuck DeVore, who is challenging Barbara Boxer for Congress. The musical performers were great. It just doesn't get any better than this.
